Painted on the day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 2022- also Estonian Independence Day. On that day, in his speech Estonian President Alar Karis closed his speech with these words I wrote in my sketchbook, next to this painting:
"My dear people. To close, let us borrow an observation by Lea Tormis: spring comes around every year, no matter what kind of a year it is. No matter what catastrophes unfold in nature or between human beings. Spring simply arrives. It is always new, never identical, and yet, it recurs from year to year, ad infinitum."
